2024 Berlin Marathon

Abbott World Major Marathon #4
The Berlin Marathon was our first marathon overseas. We knew that we could not do this big trip alone. Our wonderful travel angels and friends, Andy and Michelle, accompanied us on this trip. They were more than we could have asked for and made this trip and marathon possible. We felt good that day and had a great time both on and off the course. Fundraising for the Muscular Dystrophy Association totaled over $8400!

Berlin Marathon 50th Anniversary
To cross another finish line together is always an overwhelming experience. There were tears of joy for sure on this one being so far away. This was the largest marathon field in history at that time with over 54,000 runners and we were just one of maybe 6 duo teams on the course. (Finish time 3:24:11)

Race Highlights
This was only the 2nd year that Berlin had allowed duo teams to compete in their marathon so it was an honor to be part of helping to improve their offerings. Unfortunately for us, they did not put us in special duo team section like the United States marathons. We were placed with every other runner strictly based on our projected race time. While that may not seem significant, it can be and was dangerous for both us and the other runners due to the size of our duo bike. The entire race was pretty stressful to dodge other runners throughout the course which caused us to have to run a bit slower than we’d hoped. But overall, we had a great experience and provided our feedback to the duo team organizers in the hopes that future race logistics could be improved. Also, great to meet up with our MDA Team Momentum friends Ches and Sami.
