Abbott World Marathon Major #3
Jamie had already run Boston solo two times before we tackled it as a duo team. Our boys were able to make the trip to cheer us on. Boston’s crowds are simply amazing. This was the hardest marathon for Amy, as she struggled after the race and needed medical attention. Riding in the duo bike is also hard on the body in its own ways. We ran the Boston Marathon for the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s Team Momentum and raised over $30,500.
Hoyt Running Chairs
This race was special in another way because we got to meet and race with the creator of our duo bike, Michael DiDonato. Michael first learned of a father/son duo Dick and Rick Hoyt in 2009. If you’ve never heard of Dick Hoyt and Rick Hoyt, visit Michael’s website to learn of their incredible story which continues to inspire people across the world, including us!
Michael himself loved to race with his teammate Kyle Brodeur as Team Unstoppable. Sadly, Kyle passed away in 2025 and both Rick and Dick have passed away in 2023 and 2021 as well. We want to honor the legacy of these individuals who have pushed their way into history inspiring others “Yes You Can”! Individuals with disabilities can be included in all facets of life. We love Team Hoyt’s message of inclusion, determination and heart which forever remain a testament to what can be achieved when love and support are at the core of every journey.
Race Highlights
Boston is magical. The unicorn. It’s the race that most runners dream of running one day. The pinnacle of a running career. To be able to run this as a duo team had all the pomp and circumstance one would come to expect from such a world class marathon. Whether the exciting start with Amy lined up to go, the scream tunnel of Wellesley College at the halfway point, Newton and Heartbreak Hills or those famous last turns on Hereford and Boylston Streets, the Boston community showed up like no other through the 8 cities we ran through from Hopkinton into Boston. It was so great having our two sons there to support and cheer for us along the way. (Finish time 3:23:05)
